Snow Cruiser To Start Trip

Unless plans are changed again, Michigan Cityans can get a glimpse of Commander Richard Byrd's mammoth snow cruiser by driving to U. S. 6, 12 miles south of here, tomorrow morning.

It was impossible to tell at what time the cruiser will reach Westville--the nearest point on its route to Michigan City. It is due to roll out of Chicago at 4 a. m., with a stop west of Gary for a test on the sand dunes. How long the test will take, or how long it will take to travel from Chicago to Gary and then Gary to Westville could not be determined.

State troopers and highway department officials hazarded a guess, however, that the gigantic machine will probably not reach Westville before 8 a. m. The first day's tentative itinerary is:

Join Indiana state police at Illinois-Indiana state line. Follow U. S. 6 to testing spot at Gary limits. Continue on U. S. 6 to LaPaz where a five-minute stop will be made at the junction of U. S. 6 and U. S. 31. Follow U. S. 31 to Plymouth, thence on U. S. 30 to Fort Wayne where the first overnight stop will be made.

Today the snow cruiser was to be placed on exhibit from 4 p. m. to 11 p. m. in Chicago. Designers selected the Congress St. Plaza, in Chicago's "front yard," for a display site. Thousands of persons were expected to see it as it rolls from the Pullman- Standard Car Mfg. Co. shops in Pullman, Ill., and moves to Grant park.

GIGANTIC SNOW CRUISER BEING COMPLETED FOR ANTARCTIC VOYAGE

This view of the snow cruiser being built for the Byrd expedition to the Antarctic by the Armour Institute of Technology in Chicago, Ill., gives a vivid impression of the size of the huge travelling hotel. The crew will be able to accomplish its mission while seldom leaving the cruiser.
