Folks Await Cruiser But It's Delayed

Everyone in northern Indiana, it seems, wants to see the snow cruiser which will be used by Admiral Richard E. Byrd in his exploration of the antarctic. State Road 6 was reported lined with cars Monday morning, their occupants waiting patiently long hours for the giant vehicle which never appeared.

According to present indications the snow cruiser will not pass through northern Indiana early tomorrow morning. An informant told The Vidette-Messenger that he will receive word at least two hours before the cruiser is scheduled to appear on Road 6 in Porter county and promised that he would relay the information to this newspaper. If The Vidette-Messenger receives exact information on the time the cruiser will appear on Road 6 a bulletin will be posted in the window of the newspaper office.

According to a United Press dispatch received this afternoon from Chicago, a new tentative route of wide highways from Chicago to Boston was mapped this morning for the monster's "shakedown" trip to Boston.

Departure date of the craft which will take up almost complete roadbeds remained indefinite while final adjustments were made by construction engineers of the research foundation of the Armour Institute of Technology.

The new schedule provided for the trip from Chicago to Boston to be made in eight legs. Six from Chicago to Farmingham, Mass., were described in the latest tentative route. The first leg follows:

U. S. Route 6 from south of Chicago to near Gary, for a test on the Indiana sand dunes. Continue on Route 6 to U. S. Road 31, south to U. S. Road 30 at Plymouth, and east on U. S. Route 30 to Fort Wayne for an overnight stop.

Motorcycle highway police will meet the cruiser at each state line and provide a convoy through their jurisdictions.
