Snow Cruiser Hits Bridge And Stalls

A large crowd of local enthusiasts gathered at the intersection of 6 and 49 last Thursday morning to see Admiral Byrd's huge snow cruiser. Many were there in the early morning hours but the cruiser did not reach the intersection until shortly after noon.

The cruiser built for Rear Admiral Byrd's forthcoming antarctic expedition rammed a bridge Saturday in western Ohio and slid off the road into Pine Run creek. It was the second accident to befall the machine since leaving from Chicago on its trip to Boston. It had a minor collision with a truck at Columbia City, Ind., a few days previous.

The cruiser weighs 35 tons and is 55 feet long and more than 15 feet high.
